Hello, my name is Joy Brochhagen and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
A little about me: I love to watch a good baseball game, going to the movie theatre for some fresh popcorn, and a good cup of tea.
Growing up as an athlete and a high achiever, I often felt the pressure of perfectionism and an inability to feel I could share when the weight of it all was too much to bear, which led me down the path of wanting to help others with this. Clients often describe me as relatable, warm, and down to earth.
My therapeutic style is centered around collaboration and rooted in respect. Meaning, I see you as the expert of your own life. I often tell clients, they are driving the car and can take us down whatever path they choose. I am here in the passenger seat with the map, finding the beaten paths, because those tend to be the most beautiful. My goal is not to “fix” you, but to help you reconnect with your values, expand your resilience, and access the tools you already have or help add to your toolbox. Together, we’ll explore what’s working, what feels heavy, and how to move toward a more aligned and meaningful life. My aim is to create an environment where you can be fully seen, not just for what you do, but for who you are.
You don’t have to carry it all alone. Whether you’re an athlete, academic, or high-achiever in your field, the pursuit of excellence can bring fulfillment but it can also lead to burnout, perfectionism, and disconnection from yourself. I work with people who are often seen as the strong ones, the performers, the overachievers, the dependable ones, to create a space where you get to slow down, reflect, and be supported.
